Pathetic ‘dig’ at Rangers only highlights Celtic’s complacency

Chris Sutton’s dig at Rangers asking where we were on The International Federation of Football History and Statistics list of the past decade where Celtic were placed 11th really does show just how petty and pathetic he is, while demonstrating just what Scottish football did by dumping Rangers to the Third Division.

The list, covering 2011-2020, is based on domestic and European results, which means Celtic had a completely free aim and couldn’t exactly mess up when it came to home affairs.

Based on these stats, teams like Liverpool, Dortmund and Porto are all below Celtic, simply because none of them had a totally competition-free run at their domestic titles and trophies.

Unlike our chums at Parkhead.

Furthermore, to be 11th based on your results up till 2020 shows just how appallingly Celtic sat on their laurels in the absence of Rangers and dominated in Scotland without properly strengthening it, and that was shown patently by their dismal performances in Europe.

If Rangers had a completely free run at it for 10 years, we would be top 10 of this list if not higher, and it only highlights what Celtic actually had in the palm of their hands to throw away miserably as Rangers came storming back over the past year.

You’re right, Sutton, Rangers aren’t in this list – because you were among those to ensure that didn’t have a chance of happening with our exile to the bottom tier.

But Rangers are having the last laugh now, because the tide has most definitely changed.

  1. This is hilarious and totally representative of that lot . Apart from the brief Brendan period they have been slash in Europe and during all those years slash at home subject to no opposition or test in Scottish football. Chris who ????

  2. Apart from Brendan?
They were bad in Europe even under Brendan where they got their worst result ever losing 1-0 to Lincoln Imps, a club European record defeat 7-0 to Barcelona, a 2-0 loss to the mighty Beer-Sheva of Israel, lost 4-0 at home to Lyon, a 12-1 aggregate thumping to PSG, lost home and away to Salzburg of Austria and an away defeat to Astana of Kazakhstan. The Great Invincibles!!!
Rodgers may be a very good manager but his record in Europe is appalling and not just with Ceptic.

    • Indeed Rob, Rodgers’ European record, as you’ll have seen on Ibrox Noise, is abysmal for all clubs.
