Ibrox Noise will of course fully cover this absolutely mesmerising match of football throughout today (although is that even enough time) but curiously we actually want to bring your attention to something that may have gone over everyone’s heads.

A regular contacted us last night and suggested concern about Tavernier’s injury, or more to the point, expressed praise for his replacement Leon Balogun’s performance out of position.

Indeed, Steven Gerrard said the same, he praised Balogun for rolling his sleeves up and not minding where he played.

And of course with Tavernier lost at RB how would a CB handle the slot.

However it may have been forgotten by a great many fans (and possibly Stevie himself, yeah right) that Balogun:

IS A RIGHT BACK!

Balogun is actually by trade a RB in the first place, who discovered he was equally competent in the centre.

This is a Nigerian international who has played RB in the German Bundesliga many times, and not only started out there, but has nearly as many career outings in wing back as he does in CB!

In short, that’s why we signed him, and that’s why he’s such a key member of the squad.

And in a further shocker, did you know he was Rangers’ most highly-rated defender last night according to Whoscored? He outfoxed Goldson and Helander ratings wise and had a fantastic match with just Barisic the only one better. He of course was world class.

So all this time fans feared losing Tavernier and having to make do with a rookie in Nathan Patterson – nope, Balogun was always the man if fit, ready to slot in at the right.

So fear not Tavernier being out for a while – Balogun is actually, career-wise and statistically, a more than able replacement.
