As we discussed earlier, Niko Katic is out till summer if not later, the big Croat deeply struggling now with a desperately bad knee injury/ACLI.

This really is such a tragedy, and there are serious questions about his career at this point, given the expert prognosis predicted a January return.

Katic, from the word go, has been one of the most honest and blood and thunder performers in a Rangers shirt.

Always giving his all, the massive defender would throw himself in and get in the hurt to defend the team, the goal, and his mates.

If ever any Rangers player had the heart of a lion, it was Niko.

Indeed, speaking of lionhearts, the defender has spoken a number of times to Richard Gough, Rangers legend and friend of Ibrox Noise – the 9IAR icon helping to guide the big man as much as anyone.

But unfortunately, despite his potential to be every inch Rangers’ Van Dijk, it has been torn away from him as the peak years of his physique have been robbed by this injury.

If we see Katic in the shirt this year it’ll be a stunning bonus.

In truth, he’s one Steven Gerrard wasn’t able to fully trust, because he admitted the kid needed to learn the subtleties of defending, of patience, and when to go and when not to.

Even Katic himself earlier this season admitted he just wanted to ‘smash’ everything, which did sadly imply he might not quite have ‘got’ it yet.

But the boy just wants to defend the ball for his team, and he’s been robbed of that now for an indeterminate period.

It’s a real shame, and his career is going perilously into the ‘what might have been’ range.

We really hope he can get back.

  1. I am a massive Katic fan. When he dons the light blue he becomes a colossus for us , putting himself in the places most squirmingly avoid both to prevent goals and to score them as he brilliantly did against the rotten mob . I really really hope he gets through this and returns to our fold as is safely possible .
