“Complacency unacceptable” – ruthless is key for Rangers
It's his call....

Rangers tonight face St Johnsone, as Ibrox Noise’s Marc previewed for you yesterday.

With Celtic finally at long last winning one of their games in hand last night, Rangers might be under no threat whatsoever from the green and whites but we sure as heck don’t want even an ounce, even a sliver of optimism from them that they could dream of closing the gap, and with St Johnstone currently in good form, complacency is unacceptable.

At 20 points now with their one game in hand, Rangers won’t want any chance of that remaining come full time tonight, and of course, since the last fixture, there have been a host of changes at Ibrox and we wonder how many might be seen this evening.

Of course, it comes too early for Scotty Arfield who is just returning from injury as we speak, and Niko Katic’s return has been put on massive hold with no real date as to when the big Croat will be able to get back into the thick of it.

But there is an opportunity for Scott Wright who Steven Gerrard has talked up, and he will likely be involved, even if he doesn’t start.

Jack Simpson, however, will not be involved in the XI due to Rangers being unable to place him in the group yet – a covid test had not come back in advance of the session so he won’t be in the squad and won’t be involved at all till the weekend at the earliest.

We’ll get to the Alfredo stuff in due course, but the striker tonight will be one of Itten and Roofe with Defoe seemingly still injured. With the Swiss in bright form, he may well get the nod, and he’ll have three matches to prove himself the best choice. In fairness both are likely to get the nod, with Roofe wide right and Itten central.

No matter who is selected and who plays, it’s critical for Rangers to keep turning that ruthless screw on Celtic. They have won a rare match, so it’s essential we show them how useless that is.

Come on Rangers!
