ABERDEEN, SCOTLAND - JANUARY 10: Alfredo Morelos of Rangers celebrates after scoring his team's second goal during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Aberdeen and Rangers at Pittodrie Stadium on January 10, 2021 in Aberdeen, Scotland. Rangers made it yet another SPL win with a comfortable yet belatedly hectic victory at Pittodrie today.

Ibrox Noise gives you our ratings for a massive 90 minutes which almost certainly secured 55.

McGregor:

One or two excellent saves, and commanded his area well. Was exposed a bit early on by some hairy defending, but had no chance with the goal. 7

Tavernier:

Unfairly lambasted over the goal when the system itself was the problem, especially Ryan Jack’s absence (no one covering that hole). No such criticism was given to Barisic who was in the same predicament on the other side. Also will be disappointed with his penalty but these things happen. Played a key role in the opening goal and was a major part of Rangers’ win in the end. 7

Goldson:

Shaky opening period where Main and Cosgrove were getting joy behind Rangers’ lines, but it settled down and stabilised. It went awry for their goal, but mostly a solid afternoon from the vice-captain. 7

Balogun:

Good positioning after a bad start, but was caught out like everyone else for the consolation goal. Was good in the air and made a fair number of interceptions. 7

Barisic:

Like Tavernier was miles up the pitch for the counter, and was completely exposed for it. But got in a lot of crosses and was pretty much an attacking force in this one. Some of his crosses were glorious. 8

Davis:

Quiet match from Davis, trying to plug Tavernier’s gaps but just doesn’t have Jack’s legs – did a good job outside of the goal, and got in a tonne of passing as he always does, but maybe not his most influential performance. 7

Kamara:

A solid display from the Fin, was strong on the ball and used it well. Some defensive work in there too. 7

Kent:

We’ve missed this – by leaps and bounds his best since that form dip, Kent was absolutely on his game again today – menacing the defence constantly, getting in shots, and that assist flick for Alfie was stunning. Drove at defenders and looked like the mini-break has done him a tonne of good. 9

Aribo:

Tried very hard but not a lot came off for him – we loved his tracking and work ethic, but the dribbling rarely came off (lost the ball a few times) and he was usually left to just lay it to the side. Was visibly frustrated when Davo missed him in space in the second half. 6

Hagi:

Very involved in this one, and he’s working his confidence back. Some nice touches and movement – not everything came off but he’s getting his game back and adding a bit more to it too. 7

Morelos:

It’s as if 2020 didn’t happen. 2019’s Morelos was back with a bang here, and boy we have missed this level of performance from him. Ok, the early chance was an absolute choke, but he didn’t let it get him down – constant work ethic, mostly playing in the final third, and took both goals beautifully. Let’s hope this is the Alfie we get again from now on, because this one is unstoppable. 10

Manager:

Steven Gerrard put out the best team he could in light of the injuries, and while there were some shaky moments for sure in there, it performed extremely well indeed. The system was exposed once, and this caused the nerves to jangle, but the manager will be delighted at the steel and how his men fought their way to another 3 points. This one, almost certainly, secured 55. 10

  1. 6 out of 6 since the St Mirren defeat has given us the right to now talk about 55. Couple of big away games coming up at Fir Park and Easter Rd as well as a home game against Ross County. Win those 3 and we’ll be 19 clear with 12 games left. Then we can say it’s in the bag.

  2. Today was a real ‘game of three thirds’ we played some super stuff , not taking our chances in the 1st third and of course the penalty …then the goal fabulous by Morelos. In the 2nd third we played some really good stuff and scored another excellent goal , we also had more chances which we didn’t take. Then the 3rd third …oh dear , slack no pace, no penetration and concerned we lost what looked like a niaive goal. SH admitted such on his close out….That said 3 good points up there against a very physical team of cloggers . Well done the Referee for the red card (should have been 2) and the penalty.

  3. Brilliant result today. Agree that Tavs been getting pelters slightly unfairly. If we’re gonna allow him to play that high we need someone covering his space. Was a terrible goal to lose. However, other than that, we never looked like dropping points and that’s something you’ve got to be delighted about coming away from Pittodrie.

  4. Better from Kent. A lot better from Morelos. A wee bit better from Aribo. These players continued improvement will bring us the title. Getting Jack, Roofe and Arfield back will be the icing on the cake.

    • Take that back. Celtic’s disastrous Dubai trip and subsequent Covid problems was the icing on the cake. Just hope the fallout doesn’t affect us.
