After last week’s 2-1 victory at Pittodrie Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes revealed to the press that Steven Gerrard had contacted him over a potential pre-contract move for 23 year old forward Scott Wright and after Gerrard claimed that an offer to bring the forward in at the end of the season was ‘close’ a deal for the player looks imminent.

Rangers manager Gerrard expressed his admiration for the player when questioned and also stated that Wright could potentially join up with the squad before the end of the January transfer window with a payment being an option or that a Rangers player would go the other way in substitute for a fee, hinting that Ross McCrorie could be used to tempt the dons into letting the player depart early.

Wright who has been in and out of the Aberdeen first team since the age of 17 – with a brief loan spell at Dundee in the 18/19 season – would be a great addition to the light blues squad. It is believed that Scott Wright would assume a similar place in the squad to winger Brandon Barker possibly coming in as a replacement for potential outgoing Jordan Jones and Greg Stewart.

The forward can play across the front three and has racked up 13 goals and 15 assists in 90 appearances for both Aberdeen and Dundee. After suffering a similar injury as Niko Katic at the start of the 19/20 season Wright has been quick to re-establish himself in the Aberdeen first team. This season Scott has been involved in 7 goals in 1046 minutes for the Dons.

So far Rangers fans have had mixed feelings towards the transfer news some saying that Wright would be a no-brainer but other stating that it would be a waste of time and money but we believe that Scott Wright could quickly become the real deal at Ibrox and push for a starting place if Ryan Kent were to depart.

A deal of some sort should be wrapped up by the end of the month and Scott Wright would certainly be an interesting signing.

  1. I would offer them Barker but Aberdeen will not take him as he is an injury prone dud. They would accept Stewart who has been on loan twice to them.

  2. I like the look of this lad he can definitely play at SPFL level . He’s quick and young enough to move to our level . Good business I think .

  3. I’m not convinced that anyone from Aberdeen is going to make us better but what I do know is that we don’t need Scott Wright to win the league. So there is no need to pay any fee to bring him in this window.
