Rangers ‘used’ again as midfielder gets new deal

Rangers’ interest in Jamaica cap Daniel Johnson appears to be finished after Preston manager Alex Neil confirmed the midfielder seems to want to stay and will likely sign a new deal.

The Rangers ‘interest’ appears, in truth, to have been completely agent-based in order to get a stronger deal at Deepdale, and to that end it has worked, as Neil has confirmed a new contract will be offered to Johnson’s requirements.

It simply looks, once again, like a player and an agent threw Rangers’ name in there in order to secure a better deal at their existing club, and it’s certainly not the first time we’ve been used in this way.

Would Johnson be a decent signing? In truth he doesn’t seem significantly better than anything we currently have, and it’s not exactly missing out on Ronaldo.

But we’re going to see a lot of these stories linking us with average players just because that player and especially their agent want a big pay day at their present club.

Indeed, we’ll look more into this later today but Johnson is another who appears to have been a red herring.

Que sera!
