Rangers submit offers for defender & midfielder

According to Sky Sports reporter Mark McAdam Rangers have contacted Bournemouth over a potential deal for defender Jack Simpson.

Simpson who plays as a central defender broke into Bournemouth’s first team at the tail-end of last season and has been in and out of the team. His contract expires at the end of the season but Cardiff have recently had an offer of £750k accepted for the player.

Already with 5 central defenders at the club it is surprising that Rangers have made a move for yet another, but with Leon Balogun’s contract expiring at the end of the year and with George Edmundson’s future in the balance after a breach of covid guidelines you can maybe see why we have made a move for the player.

Although I believe extending Balogun’s contract beyond this year would be a better move for the club as Simpson lacks experience only making 35 professional appearances.

Rangers have also thought to have made an offer for 21 year old midfielder Nnamdi Ofoborh.

This would probably be a pre-contract as Ofoborh’s contract expires at the end of the season.

The midfielder who would take up a similar squad role as youngster Calvin Bassey would be an interesting move to make, as he (like Bassey) is thought to have bags of potential.

So far the youngster has made 31 appearances with both Wycombe and Bournemouth and also helped Wycombe to promotion in the 19/20.

This would be more of a project for the future and less of a first team player role which would lead me to believe that Rangers aren’t in the market for a starting midfielder such as Johnson who I mentioned yesterday.

So far it’s believed that only contact has been made and a deal has yet to be discussed.

More to follow.

  1. Interesting to see Stevie give it not a lot of traction in today’s conference. Doesn’t mean we’re not into them though. Simpson would be a decent signing but I know nothing about the other lad, although he does look like an absolute unit.
