Rangers’ link to 33-goal striker isn’t as good as it sounds

Rangers’ links to Oostende striker Fashion Sakala make absolutely no sense and sound like another agent making a story up to create interest in their player.

Not to mention the fact Rangers’ connections with the Belgian Jupiler Pro League since 2020 have seen two top-flight players join our club in the form of Hagi and Roofe therefore links to that league now seem more plausible.

But the calibre of Sakala is really rather underwhelming, and Rangers’ luck with signings from the African continent hasn’t been too great, when we consider Mali’s Lassana Coulibaly and South Africa’s Bongani Zungu (ok, give him time and all that).

Sakala, a Zambian international, has five caps for his nation and no goals, and a pretty underwhelming career return if truth be told.

5 in 15 in Belgium is ok, but it’s hardly setting our pulses on fire and the reports claim Rangers want the lad on a pre-contract.

Indeed, in 122 career appearances he has 33 goals, and we’re talking pretty modest levels of competition (Spartak Moscow II, and Belgium).

Sure, he’s only 23 but Morelos’ record in Finland when he was only 20 was staggering and that’s widely known.

We’re not sure why we’d be looking at Sakala, and it screams of a bunch of Belgian stories to follow the era of Croat links we had after signing three players from their league.

Still, maybe there’s something in it.

We’re sure Stevie will reveal more.
