There are increasing calls for Steven Gerrard to finally relent on Swiss striker Cedric Itten after the former St Gallen hitman nailed yet another goal on his latest cameo appearance.
The 24 year old, who has lost his international slot thanks to lack of domestic playing time, has done little but impress following his explosive announcement at Fir Park last year.
With 4 goals in 16 SPL appearances but just 405 minutes of playing time, he destroys Alfredo Morelos’ 6 goals in 1361 minutes (19 appearances) and while Morelos at his best, as he was v the Dons, is absolutely the best striker in the country, Itten’s consistency and prolific goalscoring per minutes played must surely be attracting his manager’s attention.
Indeed, fans have been calling for the 6ft 2 forward to get a much bigger chance, and more starting opportunities.
Ibrox Noise’s Kevin suggested a wing position, but it’s patently clear his best slot is as a target man, and he will score goals.
He’s been at Ibrox now for quite a while, and unlike Kemar Roofe who signed on the same day and who has become a regular, the younger forward has had to wait.
He is frankly still waiting, but it gives Stevie a dilemma.
Does he stick with the unreliable Alfredo Morelos, who on his day will destroy teams and do what he did v Aberdeen but mostly lets his team down, or does he give the Swiss kid the jersey and a real chance to prove himself as a potential future starter?
It’s obviously down to the manager, but the fans would definitely like the new boy to get more of a look in.
Morelos has given us next to nothing all season. Had Itten or Defoe played in those games I think either would’ve contributed close to 20 goals.
