New injury blow for Stevie could see further January action
Another puzzle?

Rangers have today confirmed the club is set to miss defender George Edmundson for a further month after the former Oldham man was ruled out following a minor procedure.

The stopper has already missed two months of action through his covid antics, and is unlikely to return any time before the tail end of February, which of course leaves Rangers continuing with just three defensive options.

Connor Goldson, Leon Balogun and Filip Helander have done well enough recently, despite last weekend’s goal, and are coping along admirably, but with Niko Katic’s recovery still something of a mystery and the big Croat’s return unclear, Edmundson’s return after suspension would have been useful for depth.

As it is, aside Calvin Bassey, there are no other senior defenders at Ibrox so Steven Gerrard’s resources are stretched a little thinner at the back than he’d like.

Which is exactly why January’s window has come at a good time, and we could use a new body or two in there fairly quickly.

  1. We’ve plenty cover in there. Bassey could play in there and we could promote a youngster. No point in making a pointless signing to see us through a few weeks when the league is already in the bag.
