Could shock return for Jordan Jones be imminent?

With Ryan Kent’s continuing substandard form typifying his struggles yesterday, while he’ll never be flavour of the month, it seems about time Steven Gerrard gives Jordan Jones the chance he’s been waiting for for a year and a half now.

The NI winger is a very, very handy player, with pace to burn and an eye for an assist.

He’s delivered at international level and he’s accomplished in the SPL.

He’s just never been given a proper chance under Gerrard, despite the pre-contract in 2019.

Gerrard’s own language about the ex-Killie man has varied from absolute condemnation in 2019 after that tackle, to much more magnanimous chat at the start of his ban about how the door was not closed for him at Ibrox.

Well, with Ryan Kent’s own form currently a bit middling, it’s time to use the squad fully and give the returning winger a run of games.

Kent isn’t letting his side down, but he’s equally nowhere near his sparkling self of September and October, and he needs his appetite back.

The best way to get that is to give him a bench place, make him earn it back.

And give Jones a run of games.

It’s why we have a big squad, and it’s why competition for places is healthy.

  1. I’m a Jordan Jones fan. Poor decisions by him and Edmundson on the breach , that aside both are potentially good players who could add further depth to the squad. Kent looks a little bewildered and a rest might help him gain his mojo. He works hard but no end product and kinda bottled it with Ajer yesterday . Jones is much more direct and is as you say a seasoned SPL player. Yes please from me . I’d like to see Edmundson getting some time too .
