Jamie O’Hara has attempted to make a bit of a name for himself with some utterly bewildering logic to explain why Fulham would win the SPL and why Rangers (and Celtic) would only be good enough for the Championship.

He explained that because Dembele was ordinary at Craven Cottage, and superb at Celtic, it supports the notion the SPL is garbage and barely Championship level.

That said French striker has done the same in Ligue 1, which is a mile higher than the SPL, the Championship and indeed the majority of the Premier League didn’t appear to register with the pundit.

As for Rangers?

The fact we’ve put away some of Europe’s best sides the past three seasons, and the fact our squad is legitimately worth mega millions also appears to have been lost on him.

It’s the age-old debate – how would Rangers do in the Premier League?

Well, for those of you arrogantly assuming we’d sail into the top six, think Newcastle. Same size of stadium, same loyal support, same size of city, all the PL money to invest in the team (even if Ashley isn’t exactly on board these days). Yet the only success a club of that size has ever really had in the PL was in Keegan’s days in the 90s.

Size and money doesn’t always mean anything. West Ham are a very big team – huge stadium (albeit rented) and rich. But are they a top 6 team? Leicester – pretty small team really, yet title winners recently and top class under Rodgers.

Where Rangers would fare in the PL is unknown – it all boils down to no one actually knowing the reality.

But we can say this for certain – Steven Gerrard and his men have proved their stripes in the past three seasons – Europe the past 36 months, and domestically this last 7 months.

The Championship has nothing close to the quality of Rangers, and we’d put away all sides in that division with ease.

Where we’d get to in the PL is anyone’s guess.

But people like O’Hara just want attention. Guess we just gave him some.

  1. When people talk about how Rangers would get on in the EPL they assume it would be with the current team. It wouldn’t. We’d be in the EPL with the mega riches available to teams there. The team finishing bottom of the EPL will get £100m whereas winning the SPL brings in just £4m. That is the real difference. As for Newcastle they could do a lot better if they had any ambition other than staying in the division.
