An internet journalist no one has heard of is tonight stirring up the hive with fabricated claims that Steven Gerrard is considering joining Arsenal as manager.

With Mikel Arteta struggling badly at the Emirates, and Arsenal sinking into relegation territory, times are not great at present for the Gooners, and said journo, a ‘Keith Azul’, has apparently popped into Steven Gerrard’s head and has learned he’s ‘pondering’ a move to London.

The hack also claims Vinai Venkatesham is himself launching a bid this month to have Gerrard go south and replace the Spaniard.

We have no idea where he’s received this intel from, but with Gerrard’s stock so high and Arsenal’s so low, it’s not the most far-out story to make up.

But of course, Gerrard’s legend is growing north of the border, and it’s assured at Anfield, so just why he’d give up on Rangers half way through just when it’s looking this good in order to take over at a historic rival of his boyhood team is really beyond us.

We’re sure this Azul chap is a perfectly credible and decent fellow, and we don’t really want to attack the man here, but this story really is an odd one.

We’d also add his account on Twitter isn’t actually verified so we’re not sure how legit he even is.

But hey, anything for attention!
