Rangers have this morning been linked with what could potentially be the move of the year in re-signing Billy Gilmour, the wonder midfielder who of course left some years ago to pursue first team football and initially lit the PL up at Stamford Bridge before injury struck.

Rangers are known to be seeking midfield armaments to bolster the team going into the tough January and February period, and Gilmour’s ability is not in question, but the 19-year old has found getting back into the first team in London rather difficult, especially with the side in such form as to have secured a top 3 slot recently.

He did make a Champions League appearance in a dead rubber match yesterday and and had a fine match, but he’s not been able to get into the first team at all this season domestically despite such outstanding cameos last campaign and is said to be seeking minutes.

This has certainly alerted Rangers whose wonderful form and status at present has not gone unnoticed by his representatives.

It is a well-known fact the main reason Gilmour left was because Rangers have been legendarily dreadful for giving youth chances in recent years, and with Chelsea’s shiny baubles and the bright lights of the PL on offer, he would rather play there than on loan at Alloa.

But obviously he’s bloomed, even if he hasn’t played as much as he’d want, and he’d be a very very popular signing back in Govan, even if it’s on loan as reports suggest.

He’s very much one of us.

We wait and see.
