Rangers fans react to Billy Gilmour (back) to Rangers….

So as you’ve all seen by now, Rangers are said to be looking at a loan deal to sign Billy Gilmour back, news which certainly put Ibrox Noise in a good mood this morning.

But we’ve been a little surprised by the fan reaction to this story.

Indeed, rather than being enthused by arguably the best Scottish talent of the last 25 years returning to Govan, many fans have instead looked down their noses at this development and suggested the player isn’t good enough, and who would he replace?

Sorry, have we woken up in a complacent arrogant twilight zone?

Yes, Rangers look strong for 55 now, and yes, we’re thoroughly enjoying it, but some fans are acting like we’re Bayern Munich now.

Who could he replace?!

Short of Messi, some fans are starting to believe Rangers can’t improve, can’t get better players – hell even the Argentinian legend would be benched for Morelos in the eyes of some supporters!

Joe Aribo hasn’t truly hit full consistent form yet at Ibrox yet, Ianis Hagi is unsettled, Zungu isn’t even ours yet and is an unknown quantity at this point, Ryan Jack has fitness issues and Steven Davis is aging.

Only Glen Kamara and Scott Arfield have no question marks over them.

So are you seriously telling us a player of Gilmour’s quality and indeed allegiances wouldn’t enhance our squad or indeed be welcome back at Ibrox?

To quote many replies we get from those who disagree, get a grip!

He’s a great player, verging on a world class player depending on his development, and Rangers would be richer for him in the side.

And you can quote us on that!

  1. I don’t dispute Billy Gilmour would enhance our team and would not be against it but I do worry that loan players like him coming in would block the path of our own players into the team and could have an unsettling impact on our very good team ethic. Zungu is a wee bit different because he is loan to buy option that wouldn’t be open to us with Gilmour.
