In a case of ‘the last thing we need’, Ibrox Noise’s first news to you on our return (Merry Xmas all, incidentally) is to sadly reveal that we could be without Ryan Jack for a considerable period, after Steven Gerrard admitted the situation is now ‘frustrating’ him.
Jack, of course, has missed a lot of games this season, and following yet another injury, he was forced to sit out Hibs last night, and will miss an undetermined period of matches, which almost certainly includes Celtic at the weekend not to mention St Mirren midweek.
As Ibrox Noise discussed with you some days ago, Jack’s impact on defence is stunning, with only 1 domestic clean sheet in his absence at the time of writing.
That has, however, massively hiked, given two clean sheets in the last two v Saints and Hibs, so despite those previous stats, Rangers have clearly begun to adjust to life without the midfielder, even if he remains our best for pure defensive midfield work.
But it’s still a big miss, and he’s absolutely certain to be unavailable for the fairly big match at the weekend as second-placed stragglers Celtic come to Ibrox.
As we say, in the past two matches Rangers have seriously tightened up at the back, with only a couple of hairy moments in the past 180 minutes to speak of.
So Jack’s absence isn’t dreadful, but we do still very much want him back ASAP.
