The football world never stays still, and yesterday’s shock resignation of Hibs supremo Leeann Dempster has seen some stories on the wires that she will be replacing Rangers’ Managing Director Stewart Robertson.
The tabloids have immediately claimed that isn’t true, but what we do know is she’s extremely highly thought of at Ibrox, and there’s absolutely no doubt Rangers are earmarking her in for a role at the club, whether it’s to replace Robertson or not.
Robertson’s conduct as Hibs chief has been fairly impeccable – dignified in the sport, she’s shown grace to other clubs and after the toxicity of the Petrie Stubbs era at that club, her much more amiable approach has gone down well at Ibrox and allowed deals between the clubs to take place.
She even put out a public apology after James Tavernier’s altercation at Easter Road two seasons ago, something other clubs in this country never would, and now that her time in Leith is up, there are strong suggestions that Rangers want her on the board.
We would welcome this entirely – she’s only got a good contribution to make wherever she goes, and Rangers can always benefit from a fresh perspective and different approaches to running the club as successfully as we are doing.
We shall see.
