Ally McCoist has been in the press recently urging Jack Wilshere to join Rangers. Hang about here – if Rangers WANTED the guy, we’d have made that move.

Yes, there have been talks, but that was a long time ago now and nothing came of them.

The Wilshere problem is major, and the story isn’t going away until the lad finds a new club, but it won’t be Rangers.

Why?

Let’s be clear – Wilshere is a borderline world class player – he is a true baller, and he would theoretically enhance many teams, but we’re honestly not sure Rangers even need him.

Our midfield, including attacking midfield, is chock a block with quality players, and frankly we don’t really have the room for Wilshere or indeed Kenny McLean right now.

But more importantly – Wilshere is coming from a club who paid him £100,000 a week, and Rangers simply wouldn’t pay that, barely even indeed a quarter of it.

So he’d have to take a giant pay cut to even remotely facilitate it.

Then you have the fitness issues – those are massive. He claims he’s been fit for about a year, but it’s very telling he couldn’t get a starting jersey for West Ham.

And if he’s not wanted by West Ham, and indeed he’s still not able to get a club after being a free agent this long, it gives you some idea that he’s just not a lucrative commodity any more.

Why? Those injuries, those wages – and as Ibrox Noise’s Kevin argued once, perhaps his personality is an issue too. If he was fit, why did West Ham have no interest in selecting him?

We know how talented a player he is, but something is clearly not right for a player of that quality to be rejected by everyone in the past few months.

So, no Ally, it’s not down to urging him to join us, it’s down to ‘urging’ Rangers to take him on.

And that’s just not going to happen.
