Rangers have been given a boost with the news Leon Balogun is predicted to start against Sierra Leone today, strongly hinting the big CB is fit again and has recovered from his blow in the first leg.

The visiting side mounted an extraordinary comeback from 4-0 down to level the tie, and the Super Eagles will be doing everything to ensure they do not lose on away goals, but it’s Balogun’s being mooted for a starting jersey according to a number of outlets that spells good news for Rangers fans and Steven Gerrard.

Rangers are already down two CBs in Edmundson and Katic, and while Helander and Goldson are in good form, having just two available isn’t ideal, so Balogun’s recovery from the first leg is key and very very useful indeed.

He and indeed team mate Joe Aribo will be desperate to play at the Afcon and will do everything in their power to help push their country in that direction, but the immediate concern of Balogun’s potential unavailability has been doused a touch with the reports he’s set to start this afternoon.

Good luck to both of them.
