Bongani Zungu Update
GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - OCTOBER 29: Bongani Zungu of Rangers warms up during the UEFA Europa League Group D stage match between Rangers and Lech Poznan at Ibrox Stadium on October 29, 2020 in Glasgow, Scotland. Steven Gerrard has revealed he would like to get Bongani Zungu involved today, and the South African is likely to be in the match day squad, but the chances of him actually being used are up in the air.

The on loan Amiens man has been putting in tremendous shifts in training to get himself up to speed, and the manager admits he’s very close to being ready, and is full available for use this weekend.

But it’s that ‘very close’ which suggests the 27-year old will, at best, be a second half substitute or will simply not be used.

Gerrard, delightfully injury-free aside Niko Katic, won’t want to risk any players whatsoever, so Zungu may have to wait a little longer before making his debut, but equally if the manager feels the big lad is ready to at least get a small cameo, Rangers fans will finally see him in the shirt today.

But right now it’s a complete 50/50.

He’s certain to be on the bench, but whether he makes his way onto the pitch at any point will be a judgement call from management.

We shall wait and see.

  1. Got his game time and did well. I sensed his body language was that he wanted to slow things down a bit, like he would in France, when really we wanted it speeded it up. But he’ll soon pick up the pace.
