Steven Gerrard has today added some fuel to the fire over a reported move by Everton’s Besic from Goodison to Ibrox.
Speaking before Sunday’s visit of Ross County, Rangers manager Gerrard slightly suggested there is no interest in the Bosnia international but didn’t absolutely dismiss it either.
He said:
Now, this might seem like the manager is dismissing the story, but just because Mo Besic isn’t in Glasgow having a medical doesn’t mean Rangers aren’t interested in his services.
Semantically speaking, it might just not have got to that stage yet in a potential move for the defensive midfielder.
Gerrard is a clever speaker, but we know from experience that when he isn’t interested in a player, he outright rejects talk of that player 100% with a pure ‘no’.
This is a lot more vague, and has given Rangers’ boss a little wriggle room. After all, first he started by confirming he wouldn’t be saying any names, then immediately said one.
When Gerrard is interested in a player, it’s either cryptic or an outright direct comment.
And this falls into the latter.
We shall see if any move for Besic bears fruit.
