Ross Wilson is looking to secure a deadline day signing in midfield today, with a glut of players mentioned as possibles.

Amiens’ Bongani Zungu, Preston’s Daniel Johnson, Stoke’s Tom Ince, Aberdeen’s Lewis Ferguson and a few other names have all been linked, but there are now less than 24 hours to secure that one final name to bolster midfield, which currently only has Steven Davis, Ryan Jack and Glen Kamara as options.

For two slots, three players isn’t seen as enough, and one more extra name would be welcome, preferably one who is as comfortable in defensive midfield as attacking, because Joe Aribo remains sidelined for now.

In short, a strong, versatile engine room man, and hopefully Rangers can sort that out on Monday.

The multiple additions we may have needed simply didn’t materialise – no right winger, no new alpha striker to replace/supplement Alfredo Morelos, and as yet, no midfielder.

Indeed, overall this window has only seen four new outfield players arrive – Balogun, Bassey, Itten and Roofe, while other loans were made permanent.

Rangers will be hoping to make it one more today.
