GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - OCTOBER 04: Steven Gerrard, Manager of Rangers gives his team instructions during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Ross County at Ibrox Stadium on October 04, 2020 in Glasgow, Scotland. Sporting stadiums around the UK remain under strict restrictions due to the Coronavirus Pandemic as Government social distancing laws prohibit fans inside venues resulting in games being played behind closed doors. Another decent result, but the performance won’t have pleased Steven Gerrard. Ibrox Noise gives you our ratings for a stale home win.

McLaughlin:

Actual literal spectator. Had a few backpasses and made a few passes, but had absolutely nothing to do except watch twice as he nearly conceded. 6

Tavernier:

An excellent marauding display again from the man in form, Tav was dynamite going forward and solid at the back. He’s become even more vital than he used to be. Incredibly his passing average was the worst blue shirt on the pitch! 8

Goldson:

Lost his man once or twice but cleared the ball a few times too, this was not one of the big CBs finest performances, but it was enough. 6

Balogun:

Nearly scored a peach, but did look a bit rusty overall. Didn’t look the smooth operator he did earlier in the season and there was a lack of understanding with Goldson. 6

Barisic:

Some nice crosses but failed miserably three times to get a direct free kick over the wall. Taken off injured. 6

Kamara:

Knew it. We all big him up and then he proceeds to turn into last season’s lazy, concentration-free mid. Gave the ball away numerous times in key areas, and looked unfocused. Dug in for the second half to improve notably but that first half was dreadful. 6

Jack:

Didn’t really impact the match much, and was clearly rusty from injury. 6

Kent:

Tried hard to make things happen, and had a few fine dribbles with some good crossing. A little better again from Kent but not yet back to his usual sizzling level. 7

Arfield:

Worked as hard as he could but it didn’t click for him because the others around him were disjointed. Never hides. 7

Jones:

Much the same as Kent. Worked hard, got in some good positions, managed a cross or two. Not as impressive as he was at Fir Park though. 7

Morelos:

Wasn’t playing as a false 9 in this one, outright striker. And was absolutely p*ss. Just isn’t effective any more. But his backers will still claim he wants to be here. 5

Subs:

Barker:

Fantastic cameo, and did more in his few minutes on the pitch than the rest of the team. Worked hard, made the runs, and scored an excellent solo goal. Might just have snared his slot back. Happy Birthday Brandon. 8

Manager:

Steven Gerrard rang the changes and they looked great on paper but they just weren’t at the races on the pitch. Sluggish performance, too much tippy-tappy passing and trying to walk the ball into the net. However, we won, and he will be thrilled with that. We go into the international break at the top of the table. 8

  1. Another worrying performance. Sure we got the points in the end but how close were County to snatching an equaliser. Simply not good enough and it’s only a matter of time before we get punished for failing to finish teams off in games we can’t put to bed. That wasn’t the form of potential Champions.

  2. That performance was awful we huffed and puffed going nowhere at times, to many non performers making the whole lot look disjointed and uninterested . Morelos was the worst of all he needs to sit on the bench/stand and contemplate his life he’s heading nowhere . He must be getting poor guidance from his representatives as he is scaring any suitors away . If this is our go to form then we will struggle again to keep focussed on 55 and the consistency that requires . I hope it was a combination of rusty/tired Euro stuff, but I’m not convinced.
