Scotland infamously is the only court in the world to deliver a ‘not proven’ verdict. The biggest legal cop out where a jury decides it doesn’t have a clue and just lets the accused off regardless.
And that level of incompetence was seen today as the SFA delivered a hysterical ‘not proven’ verdict in the case against our manager Steven Gerrard.
Don’t get us wrong, it’s good that the man is cleared and the whole nonsense is thrown out, but he’s not morally cleared is he?
This verdict is saying it can neither convict nor exonerate so it’s doing neither and giving up instead.
The evidence was there, he was either to be nonsensically convicted in a complete act of injustice, or found not guilty, which he never would have under this kangaroo court.
Instead, a passing of the buck – ‘we don’t know what to do so we’ll just forget about it and have some dinner instead’.
The Scottish football legal system is a complete joke – yes, our manager is free to take his rightful place on the touchline this weekend, but equally that he was not only cited for this absurd ‘crime’ but was then put through a farcical weekend extension due to crashing software only for the final verdict to be reached as not proven is just ludicrous at a new level.
Every time we think our national game cannot plunge deeper into incompetence, somehow it does and manages to make the previous misdemeanour of mayhem look cogent.
Gerrard got the rightful ‘outcome’ but it was far less ‘he’s not guilty’ and more ‘we don’t know what to do so we’ll do nothing’.
Just yet another case of SPFL and SFA embarrassment.
It will never end.
