Exposed – what you didn’t know about Zungu deal

There’s a little… ‘secret’ about the Bongani Zungu deal that may not be super apparent but is in actual fact very smart work by the club.

As we know, the previous attempt to sign Zungu failed because of a medical hiccup. We understand he was overweight, and it fell through at that time.

He worked hard to lose that weight, and this time all went through without a hitch.

However, originally it was set to be a £4M deal, a permanent outright signing from Amiens to make the switch to Ibrox.

Eagle-eyed punters will notice it’s a loan this time.

Zungu is out of contract next summer.

Figured it out yet?

Rangers have just secured a free transfer of a 27-year old international Ligue 1 regular and Liga NOS stalwart.

This is the part a lot of fans might not have noticed, a player who is under contract to Amiens, but who wanted to leave because he didn’t want Ligue 2 football, which is fair enough, and instead of Rangers having to pay the £4M to release a player in the last year of his deal, Ross Wilson has worked a blinder to secure a free ASSET.

He is free to negotiate a pre-contract in January.

This was very clever work from Wilson, who admitted he played the ‘long game’ to secure this one, albeit maybe being slightly economical with the truth on how.

Wilson has limited resources, like Gerrard, and we’ve just brought in a player valued in the £4M-£5M region for nothing. Can’t complain about that.
