Bongani Zungu – straight into the first team
The new guy smiles for the camera....

Now that the dust has settled on one of the most bizarre transfer sagas in recent memory, Rangers have indeed finally secured Bongani Zungu after the South African got himself fit again then match fit and ultimately became a more viable signing.

Let’s not beat around the bush – the guy failed a medical many weeks ago through being overweight, being unfit, and he’s worked hard to shed those pounds, just like Alfredo Morelos has.

The comical comments from punters online saying ‘doesn’t look fat to me’ – that’s the point, he’s worked hard to shed it and clinch his move to Rangers, and fair play to him for that.

In terms of the player himself, we just don’t know much about him. He’s experienced in France’s top flight, with a decent 21 appearances for Amiens at that level plus of course a bunch of outings in Portugal’s equivalent. He has plenty of experience of top flight football in a number of countries, so that is promising.

His CV, frankly, is good, and includes many caps for his country.

He’s a big strong powerful midfielder, most suited to the central areas – he doesn’t score many, so we’d compare him mostly validly to a taller version of Glen Kamara.

And he’s in a position we desperately needed extra for.

Truthfully we don’t need more attacking midfielders – we have three. We could have used a right winger, but then Jordan Jones’ renaissance, Brandon Barker’s emergence and Kemar Roofe in time are all adept for that slot.

What we did need was one more big strong mid – only having three currently, none of whom are especially big or destructive, meant getting a fourth one who is was important.

Hopefully Zungu is the player we need – Gary Mac has confirmed he is going to be an immediate first choice, and that bodes well.

Welcome Bongani, best of luck to you at the Famous.

  1. I don’t see him going straight in. Davis, Jack and Kamara are doing just fine in there and Im sure 2 of those will start the Old Firm game. If he does go in because he’s a better player then great for the club.

  2. I remember Coulibaly a couple of years ago .
Lots of initial fan talk about signing this wonderkid ??
He was soon back in France
Fingers crossed this 1 works out , we don’t have any wiggle room for any duds.
