Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos faces a race against time and jet lag to be ready for Saturday’s Old Firm clash.

The Colombia forward, who’s starting to become a more prominent member of his national team these days, played the majority of his country’s second half against Chile last night in the wee hours Europe time, and now faces a bit of a testing 48 hours as he bids to arrive back in the UK and be fully fresh and ready to face Celtic on Saturday.

The former HJK man is expected to start, even if there is competition from Cedric Itten and Kemar Roofe, but the latter is still anticipated to be unfit. Itten, on the other hand, has played a decent spot of football on this international break but of course his matches are a much shorter flight away.

Jermain Defoe is likely to be either benched or not involved.

As for Morelos, another 8+ hour flight back across the Atlantic will leave him a little short on time and ‘orientation’ once back in Glasgow, and manager Steven Gerrard may have a decision to make.

The likelihood is Morelos will start, because he is our best striker on paper, but his performances on the pitch this calendar year have been inconsistent at best and dreadful at worst.

But, that said, his morale will way up in light of breaking deeper into the Colombia team this break and Rangers may just benefit from that.

Hopefully he’s fresh and ready if he does indeed get the call.
