£17M Rangers shocker revealed at Parkhead
GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - OCTOBER 17: Steven Gerrard, Manager of Rangers interacts with James Tavernier of Rangers during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on October 17, 2020 in Glasgow, Scotland. We all know how easily Rangers took Celtic apart yesterday. In truth 0-4 wouldn’t have flattered the visitors.

But something has been missed by pretty much everyone which shows just how incredible not only yesterday but last year’s 1-2 win was as well:

McGregor: free

Tavernier: £300,000

Goldson: £3M

Helander: £3M

Barisic: £2M

Kamara: £50K

Davis: free

Kent: £7.5M

Barker: £300,000

Morelos: £800,000

The team that pulled Celtic to pieces cost Rangers a grand total of barely £17M, and the bulk of that was Kent, Goldson and Helander.

It was also the same team pretty much that did the same last year.

Meanwhile Celtic spent well over £30M alone on Edouard, Jullien, Bolingoli, Ajeti, Turnbull. They’ve spent boatloads in the past decade and now they’re papped out of the CL again and destroyed at home by Rangers. Again.

Yes, Rangers had a few quid on the bench – Itten and Hagi were £5M for the pair, but that was really about it.

In short, a team made up of frees and miniscule transfer fees obliterated the money men at Parkhead, not once but twice.

We have to say, that really is the Gerrard effect.

  1. Good piece this and very smugly true . It would be good to do the sum in another direction i.e value now . That’s the Steven Gerrard effect and the Boards (Mr David King) foresight to get him to Ibrox to reset and re-establish our great team Onwards 55
