Steven Gerrard’s Rangers have been given a boost with the news home stalwart and creative spark Scott Allan is to miss tomorrow’s clash at Easter Road with a ‘health issue’.

While speculation is rife about what might be wrong with the one-time Celtic midfielder, and we certainly wish him the best with his recovery, historically Allan has been one hell of a thorn in Rangers’ side and the lack of him for this one, especially with a Hibs side flying high at the summit of the table, is more than a bit of a boost.

Of course, we’d rather he was suspended or even injured to miss this one rather than a potentially-disturbing ‘health issue’ which could be absolutely anything, but nevertheless, his absence is a big bonus, because the one-time near Rangers signing has a habit of having big impact against his boyhood side.

No one can forget his cameo for Dundee some years back where his late introduction completely swung the match and won it for the home side against Rangers with barely 20 minutes to go.

And there’s that nagging feeling if he had made it to Ibrox he’d have been a much more special player than he ended up being, and would have made it to the national team too.

But nevertheless he tends to be ‘that’ player when Rangers show up and we can be glad he won’t be around tomorrow, although we wish him well to get better soon.
