Shock selection for Hibs – predicted Stevie G XI
He'll definitely be pleased with this...

It would have to be said tomorrow’s team selection will be massive. This will be Rangers’ first domestic test really this season, facing a truly top of the table team who’re playing like one, and Hibs’ Jack Ross feels exactly the same about facing us.

The personnel picked could see a host of changes again from midweek, and there is word Leon Balogun will be fit to start. Whether he will do so is another matter.

This is basically a match where Steven Gerrard pretty much has to pick his best XI, the strongest side he has available.

For us, right now, that’s:

McLaughlin, Tavernier, Goldson, Helander, Barisic; Davis, Kamara; Roofe, Hagi, Kent; Morelos

Yes, Morelos. That’s the big ‘shock’ in this one – Rangers are down right wingers almost entirely, with only really Hagi or Roofe for out there, while we’re even worse for left ones, with just Kent.

So we may require to use Roofe out wide. But we definitely need strength up top and Morelos needs goals and the shop window so that’s win win for us.

At the back it would be risky to pitch Balogun straight back in especially with an in-form Kevin Nesbit to contend with, but Filip Helander is in great form and Goldson isn’t doing too badly either at the moment.

It’s almost comical – all these players out injured yet the strength of the team we can still pick for the trip to Easter Road is as good as the above.

It’s not a bad state of affairs.
