Records smashed as Rangers prove to be real deal

And on that topic of an excellent display, this was another fine outing from Steven Gerrard’s Rangers who are starting to prove they are serious title contenders.

Yes, we’re yet to play Celtic, Hearts and Killie away, but we’ve faced Aberdeen away, Killie at home, and a United side determined to kill us, and here we are, top of the table with clear air between us and Hibs and a pleasant 6 points down to Celtic, who of course have two matches in hand.

But it’s the new top-flight record which is simply stunning for any side in the SPL.

Celtic, with all their megamillions and no Rangers to deal with, couldn’t achieve 7 clean sheets at the start of any season with our absence, and despite the SPL being weaker than it’s ever been in well over 100 years, Celtic, managed by the admittedly impressive Brendan Rodgers, couldn’t achieve what Rangers have in only our fourth season back in the top flight.

Celtic had 8 seasons to do this, and simply couldn’t, not even with borderline unlimited resources.

Rangers, under Steven Gerrard’s increasingly impressive management, have secured, with just £12M per summer, an all-time record in the top-flight of our nation.

7 clean sheets in a row.

It’s astonishing. Absolutely astonishing, given what’s at stake this campaign. Rangers, truthfully, rarely even look troubled in our matches.

Of course, this run won’t last. Teams don’t go whole seasons not conceding. It’s impossible.

Of course x2, we’re yet to play Hibs and Ross County and of course Celtic – these will be potentially a bit tougher, but we’re pretty sure we’ve played and comfortably beaten fourth-placed Aberdeen on their patch so your guess is as good as ours. And we also put away St Johnstone extremely easily as well, and they’re a solid 6th.

We shall see. Next Sunday we do indeed travel to Easter Road for our season’s first against Jack Ross’s men, and that might be a very interesting one indeed with their good form and Jamie Murphy determined to show Stevie he was wrong about him.

He didn’t today, mind you, but hey ho.

Either way Rangers are now record breakers and it’s impressive stuff.

Keep it up, lads.

  1. I welcome our new found defensive resilience but would exercise some caution. In most of the games our opponents barely crossed the half way line so getting a clean sheet wasn’t much of an achievement. We also faced Aberdeen at Pittrodrie when their 2 main strikers were injured. Before we started the season I thought if we won at Pittodrie we would go to Easter Road with maximum points having lost very few goals. We obviously didn’t manage that thanks to Livingston. But it’s another record and I’ll happily accept it.
