Rangers target matches three existing stars?

Andy Little’s assertion that signing target Daniel Johnson is at the ‘level of Aribo, Kent and Hagi’ sent tiny alarm bells ringing.

We know our ex-players often spout absolute nonsense in the press, but this one definitely raised an eyebrow.

Why?

Joe Aribo – 24. Nigeria international.

Ianis Hagi – 21. Romania international.

Ryan Kent – 23. Not quite an England int’l but competition is world class and was youth international.

Daniel Johnson – 27. Never been even considered for Jamaica at any level.

Sorry guys, but if someone is claiming this guy is as good as these three despite his age and never having managed a call up to a pretty uncompetitive NT like Jamaica (ranked close to Scotland, btw), we’re sceptical he’s good enough for us.

All three of the players Little quoted are young, and two of them are fully-fledged internationals for respectably decent international sides. Kent at least got youth caps for England and of course the competition to get caps for the senior side is kind of scary.

So we’re a little cautious.

HOWEVER to avoid sounding like completely negative so-and-sos, he does have almost 200 appearances in the Championship which is a very strong division indeed. We’re just a little dubious why a player as good as folk are claiming he is never got a bigger club than Preston.

End of the day, if he’s a great player and we bring him in, we eat our words with humble pie.

  1. I repeat an earlier post , it’s a mistake to sign this guy. Docherty is as good if not better than him as is McCrorie without a doubt and they are not here . Surely we can find someone else better and more complete in the central midfielder role we need so badly. If not then our scouring is not working properly ….Itten ?!?!

  2. I read he told his agent he knocked back a cap cos there was a lack of flights to Jamaica lol. I cant remember what website i read it on. Sounds like rumours but i did read tht somewhere.

  3. You make a very good point IN. I’ll admit I have never seen Johnson play (even on TV) and know nothing about him and I suspect that’s true for most fans. He could be a late bloomer but I’m wary.
