Rangers have been linked with a double England swoop after Newcastle’s Jacob Murphy (winger) and Preston’s Daniel Johnson (attacking/central midfield) were both strongly rumoured to be moving north, following Rangers’ injury travails v Utd on Saturday.

Johnson (27) is a newer name, and plies his trade in the Championship with North End in attacking midfield, but is generally regarded as the box-to-box type Rangers are after, although the Jamaican star has never received a cap for his country and only stood out last season in England’s second top tier. He was left out of his side’s fixture this weekend amidst transfer rumours.

Murphy, 25, for his part, has been linked with a move to Ibrox for some time, and with the untimely injury to Brandon Barker and Jordan Jones’ own injury concerns, a new winger is a must for Rangers, especially a right winger. He is said to favour a switch north to Gerrard’s men, although there are contradicting stories over whether it would be a loan or permanent.

More as we get it.
