As we mentioned earlier, Jordan Jones has been included for Thursday’s trip to the Victoria Stadium in place of injured Brandon Barker, but it’s the continued exile from all senior Rangers business that suggests Glenn Middleton has 100% played his last match for this club.

Axed competitively since being a sub at Killie for the final day of last season, Middleton has not been seen aside being benched for the French friendlies this summer and is not in the picture at all for the senior squad under this manager.

It all points to a dramatic and sad decline for the attacker, who once was regarded as a hell of a coup from Norwich, and whose famous UEL appearances for the seniors were widely praised. Sadly it went downhill as his development appeared to stop amidst increasing bad play style.

His big issue was stopping keeping his head up – as he started to look down, and not pay attention to what was around him, Middleton’s decision making, previously impressive, went to pot.

Steven Gerrard, not known for his patience when it comes to certain players in the first team, was quick to drop him, and the youngster admitted his performances had lost their way.

Loans followed, and now he’s exiled from the senior squad.

It’s a bit sad how Middleton has turned out, or hasn’t, indeed – the completely unfavoured Jordan Jones being selected for UEL backup ahead of him shows just how far his stock has sunk – Jones has at least been benched this season, but Middleton can’t even get that.

The sooner the young winger can find a club, the better, because it’s clear he has no future at Ibrox, and he is wasting valuable time.
