As three Rangers players leave, a fourth looks close…

Following the three-player exits of McPake, Mayo and Maxwell on loan, Jamie Barjonas is another who’s been threatened with similar for a number of weeks now, and after Steven Gerrard suggested he was better than what he’s been showing, and Michael Beale considered the Scot unlucky to miss out on an international call up, we wondered if Barjonas’ exit was a good idea.

The midfielder has failed to really impact the seniors ever since that original debut under Pedro in 2017 at Thistle, managing 20 appearances in three years.

It’s not awful, in his defence, but at 21 it’s time for him to break through or leave, really.

And Steven Gerrard did bench him v Hibs but only after a glut of injuries.

He hasn’t actually played any senior football for Rangers since December 2017, all 20 of his outings were that season from summer 17 to mid-December.

But we wanted to know what you thought – was Stevie right to be potentially loaning him out again? And if he did so, it would likely be the kid’s last year as a Rangers player given his deal expires next summer.

Your answer was interesting.

In a recent poll, 60% of you believed we should keep Barjonas, while 40% believed he should leave be it loan or permanent.

The reality is Barjonas, in three years, has failed to kick on at senior level for this club, for right or wrong, and it may just be that he’s simply not good enough.

We’re neutral on this one, and we’ll defer it over, but it is sad how so few Academy products do thrive at this club.

  1. Barjonas is good enough for any other team in Scotland apart from us let’s be honest . SG and his team don’t see the young Scots coming through with the mental technical or physicality that young English lads do . I hope he gets a good loan or move .
