Rangers have today been linked with Greek international forward/attacker Taxiarchis Fountas who currently plies his trade with Austrian giants Rapid Vienna, who of course Rangers faced in last season year’s Europa League competition group stage. Fountas was not a Vienna player back then.

The utlilty hitman, with a reported £5M tag over his head, had a stunning season in Austria last campaign, with 19 goals and 6 assists in just 27 league appearances. He was without doubt one of the Bundesliga’s top performers, and signing him would be a major coup, and a potential Morelos replacement.

This season he’s continued where he left off, and has two goals in two, and the more he scores the higher his stock will get. He has four caps for his nation, but no goals to show for it at senior level.

He is a pseudo-utility man and plays almost anywhere in the front six.

His career as a whole isn’t terribly inspiring, with 44 goals in almost 200 outings, but the form and maturity appears to have picked up in the past year or two with a much-improved record.

This is a developing story and we’re interested to see where it goes.
