Rangers four-man injury update
Leon Balogun in action

Steven Gerrard has today given a full injury roundup, and there’s some good news for Rangers fans.

Back are Leon Balogun, and Allan McGregor (albeit the latter was on the bench last week), but unfortunately Joe Aribo continues to miss out and Jermain Defoe’s training setback remains a blight on the former England striker.

On the flip side, both of the latter two should be ready by the time striking target Lawrence Shankland’s Dundee United come to Ibrox for the first time in 6 years the week after.

The return of Leon Balogun does give Gerrard a slight dilemma – the Nigeria international was in excellent form before his injury, albeit his afternoon at Livi was his shakiest display in our shirt (potentially carrying that injury) but Filip Helander is in fine fettle too.

Connor Goldson won’t make way for anyone, even if Rangers had hijacked Chelsea’s signing of Thiago Silva, so it’s who Gerrard partners with him.

It’s likely to be Helander again, such is his solid current form, but Balogun fit into the shirt like a glove and Gerrard may be keen to restore that promising duo.

Either way, Defoe and Aribo won’t be in the match day squad this weekend, and the latter in particular continues to be a bit of a miss.
