“One to forget – 6” – Rangers players rated v Hamilton
HAMILTON, SCOTLAND - AUGUST 29: James Tavernier of Rangers FC celebrates after scoring his team's second goal during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Hamilton Academical and Rangers at Hope CBD Stadium on August 29, 2020 in Hamilton, Scotland. (Photo by Ian MacNicol/Getty Images)

Yet another easy win for Rangers, and Ibrox Noise brings you our ratings for a pretty comfortable afternoon in Hamilton.

McLaughlin:

Actually was called into a few saves this time, and dealt with it all extremely well. Showing a brilliant deftness with his feet, and strong in the air, Allan McGregor has his work cut out to get his place back if his ‘deputy’ continues this form. 8

Tavernier:

Scored one, while doing his usual bombing up and down the right. He was even composed as a defender, more than once. Tavernier is starting to get into a rhythm this season, and the new formation suits his qualities extremely well. 8

Goldson:

Made a complete mess of an attempt at a slide tackle, and earned a dumb yellow, but was otherwise solid enough – a few clearances, and even provided a few good out balls. 7

Helander:

Showed his qualities with an excellent early block, plus a few more, Helander is starting to really settle into Scottish football and has benefited from a full pre-season. 8

Barisic:

His usual crossing plunder into the box, but Barisic was a little deeper and played more as a midfield left at times. But did sort of assist Hagi’s goal. 7

Jack:

Neat, reliable, and reading the game well, Jack isn’t playing like the marauding titan he used to, but has taken a new role of metronome. Still defending when need be but he’s not as aggressive as he used to be. 7

Davis:

Polished, with only the rarest of lapses, Davis spread the play well and kept things moving. Reads the game so well. 7

Kent:

By absolutely miles away the man of the match, Kent is back into the late 2018 form which sold Rangers fans on him. Dangerous, quick, electric, and gave Tav an easy finish. 9

Hagi:

Oh Ianis – we admire your work ethic, your refusal to hide, and how much you try, but it’s just not clicking right now. Sure, he was right place right time to finish, but this wasn’t the performance to get his confidence back. Mediocre but deserves his 6 for working hard and getting the opener. 6

Barker:

Oh dear. He had a few decent moments, but overall this was one to forget. His confidence was way down on last week, and his touch mostly deserted him. Thrashing into the side netting summed him up. 6

Roofe:

Reading the game well, getting into the right positions and playing like a proper 9, but the sharpness isn’t quite there yet and he’s not on the wavelength of the goals for now. They will come. 7

Steven Gerrard:

Completely fooled us with the team selection, plus we didn’t know Itten was injured, and he’ll be delighted with the dominance of his men, but he won’t be happy with how lacking they were up top. Had all the chances, all the shots, but converted just two tap in efforts. Need to be more clinical. Attackers weren’t ‘on fire’ enough. But we’re not missing Morelos or Aribo, which is impressive. 7

  1. Sorry IN my expectations must be higher than yours sorry , if this was the rotten mob they would have buried this pish with 5 or 6 goals . Hagi terrible, Barker ??? what’s the end result 0 , Goldson liability, Poor substitutions, we score 2 in twenty minutes then toil and huff and puff with no impact , really . I’m not filled with confidence of 55 watching that . We need a ball playing central midfielder , another LB the clock is ticking … remember last cheating season we lost not because of not beating the rotten mob but by losing against and not burying slash like Hamilton etc. .

    • If this was the rotten mob they’d have scored one at Killie and one at Dundee United. Oh wait. They did.

  2. Yet again we let a dyed in the wool bear like Murphy go to a competitor on loan and then probably for a nominal transfer fee. Murphy is a far better option than Barker who was useless as usual today. He couldn’t beat sleep and I have stated previously we well never win the league with him in the team. I dont care how good he is in training when it matters on match day he is not up to it

  3. Unbelievable……6 games none against ! Where do u lot get off? The manky mob wld do this and that! Yeah, brilliant midweek!!! Stevie G doing a tremendous job
