“A bit better” – Rangers ratings v Killie
Stevie watching on this season....

Rangers dispatched Kilmarnock with some real ease, and Ibrox Noise brings you our ratings for a comfortable afternoon against traditional foes.

McLaughlin:

Had absolutely nothing of note to do. Might as well have pulled up a chair. 6

Tavernier:

Some good balls from the right, gave Kent an assist, but wasn’t needed as a defensive force, and professional enough overall. 6

Goldson:

Total stroll for him – made one fine tackle early on but aside that didn’t have a lot to do. 6

Helander:

Like his partner, this was a quiet one for the Swede, Killie providing little threat overall. Should have scored with a gilt-edge header though. 6

Barisic:

Some wonderful distribution from the left as always, and provided the opening assist for Kemar ‘Roffe’. 7

Davis:

Quiet but composed – just a lot of spreading play and reading the flow. He’s done all this stuff a million times before. 7

Jack:

He’s looking a bit better the past two matches – getting more mobile, getting more purposeful, and his energy seems to be coming back. 7

Kent:

Lively. Nice finish for his goal, lots of movement and linking up, and he’ll be pleased to have played well. It’s probably only encouraged Leeds though. 8

Roofe:

Ok we’ve given him his real spelling now – in truth it was a quiet game for the striker – managed to hit the post and we’re not sure how intentional his goal was but it got him off the mark, so we’re happy with that. 7

Barker:

By a distance his best competitive performance for Rangers – full of running, tore Killie a new one a few times, and tried for goal more than once. Confidence is coming back, and he’s given his manager a serious new option. 8

Itten:

Worked very hard, and had a little more composure on the ball, but committed the ‘Alfredo Morelos’ fallacy of coming too deep a bit too much. Managed a couple of shots but overall lacked effectiveness. It’ll come. 6

Manager:

Stevie ripped up the lineup, making four changes to his XI, and while there was a touch of huff and puff about the first 20 minutes, it was a stroll after Roofe’s opener. He’s made the changes, dumping Morelos especially, and the team looked more harmonious for it. It’s not all fixed overnight, but he’ll be pleased his changes did work. 8

  1. I would question a few scores and perceived influences IN , yes it was better than last week but not by much. Barker has no end product . Itten showed little but will need game time , Roofe was involved and once he can get fully integrated with some creative players I think he will be good. Tavernier was his usual half and half . Barasic was excellent . Poor substitution by Gerrard 2-0 up he brings on Kamara and Hagi ?? Lots more to do, it’s 3 points that’s fine onwards.

    • Agree Bill. Only marginally better and still short of good enough. We are still allowing teams to settle into the game. We should be ripping into them from the very start.

  2. Agree with the sentiments. Credit where it is due, SG did what we have been shouting for, and it worked. Eventually. After a slow start.
