Axed for Motherwell - major casualties excluded at Ibrox

Rangers today have revealed the players who will not be making the squad for tonight’s visit of Motherwell, after the B team for the visit of Dundee United was announced.

Rangers fans will not see Jordan Jones, Greg Docherty, Greg Stewart, Nathan Patterson, Calvin Bassey, Ross McCrorie or Glenn Middleton among others as the seniors take the field against the visiting Steel Men this evening at 6, and this tends to support the notion the above players are very much backup.

We had proposed that Calvin Bassey might be pushing for a first-team jersey given what Stevie had said about him, but his performances in France weren’t terribly stand out, and for now he’s with the reserves.

As for Jones, Docherty, Patterson and McCrorie especially, they will be gutted to be playing no part tonight given they’d have hoped to have a bigger impact this season, but as we’ve said many times before, Stevie has his pals and some guys just aren’t in this group.

There are other notes in this lot but we’ll cover them over the course of the day.
