Three players and £40M for Steven Gerrard?

Three Rangers players have been linked more than any in the squad with big money moves out, and for a combined total of potentially well over £30M, into £40M.

Alfredo Morelos (Rennes), Borna Barisic (Roma) and Glen Kamara (Marseille) have all been plugged as headed out for big sums of money, and while other players have loosely been mentioned too with sales, it’s these three who look most vulnerable.

Morelos, of course, will leave if the right bid comes in – reports are that Rennes are readying a £15M package for the Colombian, and we’ll see if that bears fruit.

Borna Barisic has been long-linked to Roma, and the new contract made no difference. The comparison has always been Kieran Tierney and how Arsenal signed Celtic’s own LB for £25M. Rangers would expect a Croat international in the same position to fetch something near that.

And lastly Glen Kamara was a surprise target for French giants Marseille, who were said to be looking at a £10M bid for the Finnish international. Nothing has materialised yet, and we’ll see if it does.

But there’s something key here:

All these players are expendable.

Morelos’ mutual love affair with the club is over, and the overriding feeling fans give us every day is they’re fed up of him.

Barisic only had a great four months with Rangers, where his value went stratospheric – and the signing and bigging up of Calvin Bassey does hint that Stevie sees him as much a replacement for the Croat as a deputy.

And Kamara has never been a great signing – value, yes, but definitely a replaceable player and not one the fans seem to hold in massive universal regard.

What we’re saying is as long as these guys are well-replaced, we feel that Rangers supporters would be happier getting near £40M for the three of them than holding onto them and not having the money.

It’s a decent chunk of cash for Stevie to rebuild the side with, and if it costs us those three, it may be a price worth paying.
