New attacker deal said to be ‘close’

Rangers’ recent hoovering up of youth talent UK-wide is continuing following the captures of Calvin Bassey (20) and James Graham (16) with the imminent signing of Blackpool attacker Tony Weston.

The latest 16-year old to be on Steven Gerrard, Ross Wilson and Craig Mulholland’s radar has spent his whole time on the pier and Rangers are said to be closing in on the deal to bring him north and install him in Auchenhowie’s academy.

True, it’s not strictly a signing for now, or one that will get the fans absolutely elated, but it’s worth noting that while it was only for a couple of minutes, the lad has had senior experience in the first team in the FA cup December of last year as a late substitute, so he’s not completely green.

But it’s another one for the future, which aside Ianis Hagi recently, does seem to be the pattern of current recruits.

At least we’ll know that in two or three years, we’ll have a glut of top quality players coming through the ranks to knock on the first team door.

Won’t exactly win us the league next season though, probably…
