Major Rangers transfer target gets price quoted

Rangers have been ‘quoted’ an official price for Livi striker Lyndon Dykes, and it’s what Ibrox Noise told you some weeks ago.

The Tony Macaroni side are resigned to losing their star man, with the Aussie-born Scot being linked with the next step in his career, and when we discussed what his value would be, it was at least £2M.

Well that’s the number ‘announced’ recently that Gary Holt wants before he’ll consider selling, and for a top SPL striker in the last two years of his contract, at his age, it’s a reasonable number, if marginally on the high side.

Naturally the moment Rangers look seriously invested in signing the hitman, Celtic show up too in the press, which is behaviour we have to just get used to these days – it’s definitely more prolific than it was.

But either way, if Rangers want the forward, and we should, we’ll have to pay what is probably the market rate for the lad.

A word of caution is of course the last time Rangers clinched a top rival striker from the SPL – Kyle Lafferty.

That one did not work out and was a waste of £700,000 – Rangers cannot afford slipups like that again.

But while Kyle’s career was probably behind him, Dykes has his best years ahead, and going into the peak of his career for a forward, £2M could be very good value for money.

After all, we look at the impact the £2M signing of Killie’s Steven Naismith had (when he finally got fit) in 2011 and that kind of cost isn’t a prerequisite for being too pricey.

Just depends if our club is serious about getting the tough striker.
