Something about Rangers’ pursuit of Ferguson doesn’t add up

We’re seeing a little bit of fuss online after Barry Ferguson recommended Rangers sign his nephew Lewis.

Naturally, he would say that, but he’s not wrong to rate the kid – only 20 and with excellent stats for the campaign in his position, but there’s a catch:

Rangers’ own Greg Docherty achieved EXACTLY the same overall season stats at the same age for Hamilton. 3 goals, 9 assists in 39 appearances. The only difference with Ferguson at the same age was he played one match less.

Docherty immediately got signed for Rangers, and after a promising initial spell he just got dumped and it’s evident he has no future at Ibrox.

For reasons we couldn’t explain, even if we’ve tried.

Lewis Ferguson, literally, is a carbon copy of Docherty, and if Rangers and Steven Gerrard do want him, it makes the discard of Docherty even harder to swallow.

Of course, Gerrard signed Joe Aribo to firmly imprint the notion Docherty was unwanted, but even Gerrard’s own comments about Docherty contradict his actions – he’s been praising, positive, and even called him a model professional. Explained the kid couldn’t have done more. And admitted it’s not enough.

Yet he’s interested in a lad who’s a clone of Docherty.

Colour us confused as to why we’re going for Ferguson on the basis of already having Docherty.
