Revolution at Ibrox begins after 6 players confirmed as leaving

Just a quick piece on the confirmed departures of six Rangers players:

Jason Holt, which was already known, Jordan Rossiter, also already confirmed, Jak Alnwick, unsurprising, and then we get to the interesting ones:

Andy Halliday, Wes Foderingham and Jon Flanagan.

We start with Wes. He did a decent job in the Championship, but was badly exposed in Warby’s SPL, despite a few naive fans thinking he was good enough. Honest enough stopper, honest enough to run his contract down we guess, did his best when called upon but we can honestly say thanks and goodbye to him. We’ve not a lot else to say about Wes.

Next we move onto Flanagan. He was a very mediocre player, whose career derailed after his brush with the law. He isn’t good enough now for top-flight football and struggled at both left back and right back for us. He is about League One England level these days, and in his defence he never complained about such little playing time. He did the best he could, and sometimes he did do well. Mostly he didn’t. He shouldn’t really have been signed, such was his reputation, and he added little to Rangers overall. He won’t be missed.

Lastly, the hero of the piece. Andy Halliday, having lived the dream at Ibrox, having captained his boyhood heroes, he couldn’t be more dyed in the wool blue if he swam in blue paint under a union jack chanting the sash while in his full Rangers kit. He did NOT let this club down – and he got unfair abuse from supporters later in the SG era for not being a better player. He was more than competent at LB and solid in midfield, and he got to run out for his team at his stadium right next to where he grew up. For a fair while he was a fan hero, an icon, a symbol of our rise from the ashes – and he will cherish that for the rest of his life.

There’s more we’ll bring you in the coming days about this, but this summer, things are changing.

And this is only the start.
