An Ibrox Noise Statement

One of our readers today, a gentleman by the name Davy Lowe, made a comment on our frustrated piece about Rangers’ youth failure earlier:

“fair play IN as normal pulling no punches respect mate”

It’s oft been said about this site that we’re negative, or that we’re not true fans, or that we don’t have a clue.

Bits of this could be argued now and again – we don’t take ourselves overly seriously and we always admit when we get things wrong.

But the one thing we always do is call a spade a spade.

This site is a Rangers site, for Rangers supporters, but it’s a support that perhaps belongs in the 80s and 90s, less so today – but we couldn’t care less.

See, we are the kind of fan who will always support our club, always defend it against its enemies – but always hold it to account too, and demand the best from it.

Be that the manager, the staff, or the players, we expect a level from Rangers, having known little else in our younger decades, and we make zero apology for calling it out when it fails to live up to it.

For example, we knew after a few months that Le Guen was a fail – and the club agreed and fired him. A good man, he just wasn’t the right fit for the club, and fans were melting in disgust at being second, even third, even worse – and the majority demanded his head.

And we remain like that today – we remain unapologetic for wanting our club to be the best, and now that we’ve been back in the SPL for almost half a decade (yes, really) but remain miles behind Celtic, we will always call that.

Many fans have a different stance. They say ‘in Stevie we trust’ and turn a blind eye to things which don’t work. Their support starts and ends there. They give 100% backing to the manager, attack the players for being rotten, and have their faith in the manager making it right.

And that’s ok. It is, it’s ok. We respect that.

We just don’t share it.

For us, it’s all about winning – it’s about being the best, and when we see things that aren’t, that aren’t right, that aren’t what we’re familiar with, we call those.

This doesn’t mean we’re not supporters – it means we’re a different type of supporter to many out there.

Our support is that we back the club, we pay our money, but we also hold the club responsible and call it out when it fails at something. And we do so with honesty and from the heart.

We know there are a lot of you like that too.

But there are many who just respond with ‘in Stevie we trust’.

What we’d say is live and let live. We have no issue with a method of support that differs from ours, and all we ask is you attack us a little less for ours.

Just because you don’t agree with someone doesn’t mean you should smear them.

Can live in hope can’t we?
