Bizarre allegations made about Rangers forward as three sides linked

You may recall a couple of months ago West Ham were strongly linked with a move for Rangers’ on-loan Genk attacker Ianis Hagi, following claims they’d scouted him during his time in Belgium.

This morning, another two PL sides were thrown into the mix after talk surfaced that Tottenham and Man City are looking at the Romanian as well.

Hagi’s agent, Giovanni Becali, made the allegation that he’s spoken to both Spurs and Man City about the attacker’s availability, citing major representatives from both clubs.

He said:

"I have been asked personally by Jose Mourinho (Spurs) and Txiki Begiristain (Man City) about Ianis Hagi."

Of course, even if true, Rangers have first refusal on the playmaker for around £4.5M anyway, so once that decision is taken, only then might Spurs, West Ham or City be in with a shout of signing him.

And there’s more than a chance this is piffle and just a way to big the player up, which is of course an agent’s job.

But it’s also a bit pointless given Rangers’ aforementioned contract clause.

End of the day, it doesn’t matter if Real Madrid offer £50M for Hagi, Rangers have first choice legally over whether or not to sign him, so whether Mourinho or anyone else might want the forward doesn’t really matter.

We have first dibs.
