“Bring them back” – fans want Stevie to make a change

The most common argument we’re seeing in response to our recent content alludes to the players who are out on loan.

And this is definitely a theme from the manager, having favourites, and having others he just refuses to countenance.

Glenn Middleton, Jamie Murphy, Greg Docherty, and Ross McCrorie are all being vividly mentioned, given, especially in Murphy and Docherty’s cases, they are having a whale of a time at their loan clubs.

With Rangers’ form so up and down at present (mostly down domestically let’s face it), fans are looking to players that the manager has rejected, given the ones he’s gone with just aren’t delivering these days.

Fans’ exasperation at the likes of Docherty and McCrorie being exiled while Kamara and Aribo underperform has been a repeating theme, so let’s have a look at the best of our loan players:

Docherty:

The jewel in the crown for many, ourselves included, Docherty simply hasn’t had a sniff since Stevie became manager. How’s he doing at Hibs, how did he do at Shrewsbury?

Hibs – 3 goals, 5 assists in 6 appearances.

Shrewsbury – 10 goals, 11 assists in 50 appearances (better in the same division, incidentally, that the man who replaced him, Joe Aribo).

So, in total, 17 goals, 16 assists in 56 appearances. Nuff said really.

Murphy:

Not as lauded back in the day, but when we realised we’d be left with Brandon Barker and Sheyi Ojo, fans started to pay attention.

His numbers at Burton:

5 goals, 1 assist in 8 appearances. Strong.

McCrorie:

Being played more as a RB than a DM, which is his best position, so hard to judge McCrorie at Portsmouth, but we know what he brings to Rangers in midfield. More than Kamara, that’s for sure.

Middleton:

Just two appearances, no goals at Bradford.

There is little doubt there’s value to gain from Murphy, McCrorie and Docherty being at Ibrox rather than elsewhere.

We’re just not sure any loans will be recalled any time soon.
