Three-man selection dilmma for Hibs

Steven Gerrard confirmed at his pre-Hibs presser that James Tavernier is now available again, although he’s not completely match-fit, unsurprisingly.

The captain, who some feel has been badly missed the past few matches, has recovered from an appendectomy and while not exactly ready for 90 minutes, there’s an outside chance he might start.

The question is should he?

Matt Polster has done a pretty solid job in his absence, and Ibrox Noise suggested playing both of them in time, Polster more as a defensive RB, Tavernier as the more creative attacker – but together.

We can’t, however, see Stevie making wholesale changes on Wednesday nor can we see him dropping Joe Aribo, which would be required to see the Polster/Tavernier duo.

So, would it be just one of Polster or Tavernier? And let’s face it, in a straight fully-fit choice, Gerrard is never going to go with anyone besides the former Wigan man, his captain.

He is the defender our manager chose to make permanent leader out there, and if fit he starts every match.

Perhaps some of the flatness has been due to his absence, but then Morelos’ return didn’t exactly spark things to life either and some fans had put it down to that previously.

Either way, we’ll be very interested to see what the manager chooses.

In truth, we don’t think Tavernier will start – we think he’ll be bench again, because we don’t think he’s ready for 90 minutes. Polster will probably continue.

But then, we might be wrong.

We await the team news at 18:45.
